I recently attended a hugely informative and enjoyable course at Printhaus and am already looking forward to my next one. The Cardiff Artists Books event last summer was superb as well, great to see such a huge range of fantastic work

To have the Portable Press come to us was a fantastic gathering activity for our mix of ages, characters and t-shirt sizes! The Printhaus team were incredible with the right amount of energy, skill and patience, which meant that before long we were all wearing our own printed t's - and proudly. These guys are the Don's for facilitating creativity, community and collaboration within Cardiff. So sleeves up and have a go.

The Printhaus have been delivering workshops to Vision 21’s School Holiday project for two years. The project, which is supported by Children in Need, focuses on building social skills and interaction through working with others in a fun and creative environment, for young people with learning needs. Each experience we have had with the Printhaus has been excellent; activities have been adapted to suit the learner’s abilities, varied needs and to challenge creativity. The tutor’s actively encourage and support learners to explore their creativity and achieve professional outcomes through a range of printmaking techniques and processes. Working individually and as a group the young people have explored screen printing, relief and mono-printing, printing with flowers and found objects; creating a variety of pieces including postcards, posters, t-shirts, books and a large fabric wall hanging. Participants were given the opportunity to be involved in the whole printmaking process; preparing screens, using machinery and were encouraged to make decisions regarding content, colour and size. Learners have been made to feel welcome by all, and have thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to work in a professional studio, use specialised equipment and work beside skilled and imaginative staff. All participants have enjoyed working in such a creative, fun and friendly environment, I would highly recommend the Printhaus to any organisation or individual who would like to explore and build their artistic knowledge and skills with support provided by highly skilled staff with a can do attitude.

The Designdough team
We have been using the Printhaus for 2 years now, what a super creative space, what a super asset to the creative arts, and we will be checking in next year! We take our students to the space to utilise the extensive facilities and for the unique atmosphere of the space. Jude the Co-founder and Workshop Manager has run specific workshop sessions over a 4 week period with our BA (hons) Interior Design students. With the guidance of Jude and the Printhaus, our students have gained invaluable design skills and developed new ways of thinking through the process of print. One of the key qualities of the Printhaus is that it is a true artist run space, the place Ouse's ‘arthouse’ and that’s not something that can be mimicked, it has to be real. Its a gem inCardiff creative quarter, understated but leading the way in the wider world of community run spaces. Theres nothing else like it in Cardiff and I’m not sure there's anything better in Bristol or London, its really a very special place that should be celebrated by the City.

As designers, we're so used to looking at screens and pushing pixels that sometimes we forget about how to get into a real creative mess (a good one though!). We absolutely loved our time with Shaun at The Printhaus, who gave us just enough information to get us started, but allowed us to get really creative in the print studio and experiment with texture and mark making. The studio is so relaxed but really well equipped and we felt comfortable sharing our ideas with Shaun, who gave us brilliant advice on how to turn our flat designs into really vibrant pieces. We wouldn't hesitate to visit again, loved the vibe and felt so inspired by our trip! Thanks guys!"

Even though you might spend five days a week with your team, sometimes doing something totally different can really get everyone revved up. We had a great day at PrintHaus—it was great to look at a screen without pixels for once! Big thanks to Nigel who was a brilliant teacher, and put up with our nonsense without complaint! If you're looking for a day out with your team, we'd strongly recommend this place”

We love working with Printhaus! From printing our designs and logos onto bags and t-shirts to running 'Print your own' activities at our events and workshops they never fail to deliver. Their staff are always friendly, professional and extremely hard working. It's great to see an independent, local business supporting so many independent designers, artists and social enterprises, as well as providing an inspiring space for the community.

A very worthwhile day – and thinking about a return visit in the not too distant future!

A&O Studios developed a project entitled 'O Gan I Gelf' (From Song To Art). The concept behind the project was to create art in the form of T-Shirt designs inspired by Welsh language songs. Part of the project was to run workshops and work with students from schools and colleges in South Wales to generate designs that would work as T shirt designs. We had a great experience with Printhaus and they were able to accommodate us at short notice. They gave us a comprehensive introduction to the screen printing process and by the afternoon we were all busy printing our own designs. The project was a great success and we will be back with further projects in the near future.

I have just finished my one to one session with Shaun at the Printhaus and I can honestly say it is possibly the best £75 I have ever spent. I was initially expecting a generic one size fits all structure, but Shaun arranged the session completely around what I wanted to focus on and achieve. I have recently purchased a screen printing set up and was able to bring my own exposure lamps which we were then able to spend some time on and determine the correct exposure time for my work going forward (Shaun even attached them to a board for me). I wanted to focus primarily on white ink and the best applications for both plastisol and water based and this is what our practical time was spent doing. Shaun covered everything from ink application and different mesh counts to effective squeegee technique and flash dry/curing time. Being new to screen printing and needing to be able to reach a competent level as fast as possible this session was so helpful. I had an abundance of questions that were all answered and I left feeling that I had cleared through the haze that online forums and videos had left me with. Cant recommend highly enough.

I've always had an interest in screen printing and decided to book into a beginner's workshop at PrintHaus. Before booking, I dropped by the workshop for a friendly tour and chat. The workshop is home to a number of resident artists specialising in a range of disciplines and was a fantastic creative environment. I was given some useful advice in preparation for the one to one session. Booking was simple and I was in the workshop getting hands on the following week. The 3 hour workshop with Jude was fun and informative. Jude explained the process every step of the way and I walked away with a set of 15 prints on my first day! I'm now hooked and looking to become a member.

I initially approached the Printhaus with a vague idea of doing some screen printing training, as part of my professional development.
But I left with vastly more……After an in-depth consultation, a specific and target driven, individual program was agreed. This was reviewed at the end of each session and targets were adjusted accordingly. The individual approach based around my own art practice gave the sessions a focus and encouraged an open dialogue about my learning and the direction of the prints. I now feel I have the skills and the confidence to expand and develop my printmaking skills and to pass this knowledge and enthusiasm for print on to my students.
The Printhaus is a great place to be! Well-equipped and well stocked, there was a calm and logical method of teaching that connected with and inspired me. I can’t speak highly enough of this organisation.
The Printhaus has enabled me to re-engage with printmaking after a gap of 30 years. Which is fantastic ! I can’t wait to do more!

After deciding I wanted to screen print my final collection, I realised I had no knowledge of how the screen printing process worked. My tutor put me in contact with Jude who instantly put me at ease. Through several testing and sampling sessions we were able to produce a production plan and step by step guide, involving plenty of tea breaks! Jude was able to answer any questions I had, allowing me to grasp a solid understanding of screen printing and how the industry works. Jude was also more than happy to be my personal photographer to document the whole process! I am very thankful for this collaboration opportunity, because without the one-to-one sessions at The Printhaus, I would not have been able to produce a collection I’m proud of. I will definitely be back to work on new projects in the future – I have the screen printing bug now.
