PRINTED Festival 2024

Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th june - 11am-4pm - CHAPTER ARTS CENTRE - Free entry

SUPPORTED BY CHAPTER ARTS CENTRE, The tour de force Print Wagon and The Printhaus RETURN FOR THE SECOND ROUND OF PRINTED FESTIVAL!

WHat’s it all about?

After the successful launch of the festival last year, we have secured funding from the Arts Council of Wales to bring you a bigger and better Printed ‘24!

Print culture in Wales is strong. The accessibility of the art form appeals to a wide array of makers and there are many established print-related organisations in and around the Cardiff area. Canton in particular has proven itself to be a hub for print-based and print-adjacent studios. Our festival is perfectly placed in Chapter Arts Centre, bringing these businesses together for a weekend to celebrate print.

Our aim is to continue to build on the existing culture in South Wales by creating this new forum for artists, organisations and educators alike. The festival set-up enables links to be made, resources to be shared and serves as a basis of opportunity and participation for all involved. The community is already stronger since last years festival, and we are excited to keep up the momentum.

“We were blown away by all the positive comments from last year’s event, it was quite humbling! We begged, stole, and borrowed from everyone involved, who threw themselves into it with boundless passion! This year we want to expand and connect with more creatives and create an even better experience for visitors.” Tom - The Printhaus

Printed Festival went far better than I could have ever dreamed! After years of planning with Tom and Jude, we succeeded in creating an inclusive, interactive print festival that educated and inspired people to participate in creative practices. As soon as it was over, we realised Printed was but the foundation of a larger project, and we were inspired, compelled (!) to think of new and innovative ways in which we could engage the Welsh public and get them excited about printmaking. So this year we are going bigger and bolder, with more of what went well last year and some new and interesting tricks up our sleeves for this year. You can’t miss it.” Aidan - Print Wagon

Over the festival weekend

Come and get printy with us!

A huge range of family-friendly activities will be taking place, designed to whet your appetite for all things print!

Expect a ‘makers trail’ of print artists stalls weaving through the vicinity. Take the time to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in to the have-a-go print activities, from risograph to screenprinting and everything in between. Venture into the Printhaus’ studios to experience live printmaking demonstrations. If you want to appease your curiosity further, book yourself in to hear a discussion panel delve deep into printmaking, or listen to a talk from one of our print professionals.

The Print Ushers will be around for the whole weekend - acting as friendly faces to help direct you, your friends and family to get to where you want to go.

We are also really excited to be introducing a Printed Festival publication this year, which will be released during the build-up to the event. It will include information on the participants, the community workshops, a map of the event, and some other print-related goodies too!

Whether you are a practising artist, hobbyist or a complete newcomer to print, Printed Festival is sure to have something to offer you – beautiful prints, the chance to create your own, perhaps a networking opportunity and much much more.

Tom Frost

Lena Yokoyama & Rory Wyn - Isshoo Collective
