JOINING AND INDUCTIONS
All new applicants enter into the same joining process by completing the mandatory induction
Inductions occur on the 1st of each month, which is also when members' subscriptions begin. Members can select their preferred induction date on the website when purchasing their subscription
Inductions cover essential studio knowledge: Members' Area access and benefits, equipment safety, booking studio time, where to buy materials, studio sharing guidelines and a quick printing demonstration. This orientation helps members navigate the space confidently, but please note—it's not a printing class and members won't create their own prints during the session. It's simply an introduction to how the studio works and what's expected of members
ACCESS
The studio is accessible in line with Chapter’s open hours and is open to members 7-days a week, 8.30am-10pm. Including bank holiday weekends
Access to the ground floor and first-floor studio is via key-code pad. Members are given the codes during the induction
Members book studio time and equipment through Google Calendar, which regulates all studio access
Time on print presses and machinery is capped, but preparatory work (screen coating, drawing) has no time limit
Access times are monitored and may change based on demand, with all members consulted via email about any modifications
HEALTH & SAFETY IN THE WORKSHOP
The studio uses primarily water-based inks and accompanying cleaners. Members must check with staff first about the use of non-water-based inks/cleaners. The studio is a shared space and members with medical conditions could be exposed to harmful fumes/chemicals that might endanger their health and your own
Members who feel noticeably unwell and/or present symptoms of any communicable disease should stay away from the studio until they are in better health
Prior to the use of any facility or equipment, members must first take the required training and be approved by staff
It is a requirement of membership that health & safety guidelines are adhered to
All members will receive health & safety training as part of the induction and before the start of membership
On successful completion of the health & safety training, members can request or be required to undertake further training in accordance with the prescribed health & safety guidelines
COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS
We welcome collaboration in the studio. Members planning to work with others and bring them into the studio must talk to us about the collaboration details and studio usage beforehand
MATERIALS
The studio sells materials for screenprinting and riso printing
Materials must be paid for either in advance or at the end of each printing session
Payment is made by card and using the POS (Point Of Sale) located in the upstairs studio. Minimum spend of £1 per transaction
Members can bring in their own art materials to use in the studio
Screens must be checked by staff before use on the exposure-unit
STORAGE
Lockers and plan-chest drawers are available for hire subject to availability
There is shared screens storage for all screenprint members located in the ground floor studio and in the adjoining corridor. Members should clearly label their screens with a permanent marker and/or coloured tape. Members are responsible for the safe-keeping of their own screens. We do not take responsibility for members’ personal screens
KEEPING THE WORKSHOP TIDY
Members are responsible for tidying up after themselves
All equipment and materials must be cleaned and returned to their allocated places
Rubbish and waste must be disposed of responsibly by using the correct waste-bins provided
COURSES
Course subscriptions help sustain the studio. Members will sometimes share space with non-members during pre-booked sessions. If the entire studio becomes inaccessible due to external bookings, members receive at least 2 weeks email notice
