TUTOR & TECHNIQUE:
Week 1- Screenprinting with paper stencil cut-outs
Week 2 - Screenprinting using photo stencils with photographic imagery and mark-resist film for hand-drawn marks and textures
Week 3 - Working with combined techniques to develop prints and getting used to working in the studio
Week 4 - Building on previous weeks, continuing to explore trying out the techniques and getting more comfortable in the studio. By the end of this final week, you'll feel much more comfortable and ready to take on membership if you choose
LEVEL OF COURSE - EASY - entry level techniques for screenprinting onto paper.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
A great course for novices and handy as a refresher for beginners. Participants receive a great introduction to an array of techniques for creating screenprinted artworks onto paper, using hinge-clamps stations. Participants will work with water-based acrylic inks, printing onto A3 size cartridge paper and create a small set of prints to take home each week
SCHEDULE
Week one (2.5 hours) - Screenprinting with paper stencil cut-outs
• Introduction to the studio and looking at examples of screenprinted works on paper
• Demonstration of the basic screenprinting tools and equipment (including best practices and safe-handling): screens, squeegees, stirrers and spatulas, hinge-clamp stations, lay-sheets and the pressure-washer
• Demonstration of screenprinting inks for paper: how to mix inks for screenprinting and how to preserve your ink
• Talk about imagery suited to paper-stencils and demonstration of making paper-stencils
• Demonstration of how to screenprint using the paper-stencils
• Participants make their paper-stencils and screenprint their images
Week two (2.5 hours) - Screenprinting using photo stencils with photographic imagery and mark-resist film for hand-drawn marks and textures
• Look at examples of prints using mark-resist and photographs
• Introduction to photo stencils and use of the exposure unit. Including:
how to choose the right screen to suit your image and how to coat screens
how to operate the exposure unit
how to wash-out exposed stencils
• Introduction to using Photoshop to convert your colour photos into screenprints
• Learning how to use mark-resist film with ink, oil pastels and marker pens
• You'll make a sheet of experimental marks, washes and textures, expose it to a screen, and then print with it
Week three and four (5 hours total) - Combining Techniques & Getting Comfortable in the Studio
Following on from what you've learned, the studio is yours to explore ideas and get familiar with printing. Creative work takes time, and these final two weeks give you just that—space to settle in, experiment, make mistakes, and start finding your approach to printmaking

2. Changes made within 3 - 6 days will incur a 30% fee.
