CODE OF CONDUCT

It is important all members are clear about the following practices which are not acceptable and could result in the termination of their membership without compensation.

  • Printing other people's artwork for them. Commissioned work is permitted, provided the resultant artwork is your design and not something which has been ready-supplied or designed by someone else

  • Not paying for materials and/or equipment at the end of each print session

  • Producing bootleg merch

  • Bringing non-members into the workshop without prior permission

  • Using equipment under the influence of alcohol/drugs

INDUCTION

Inductions are a mandatory part of the process to become a member of the studio. There are two different types of inductions:

  • Screenprint induction

  • Riso induction

Applicants who wish to join both types of membership (screenprint member and riso member) must complete the equivalent inductions. The inductions are held once a month and held in groups. They provide a comprehensive introduction to the studio and the screenprinting/riso print process.

On completion of the induction, applicants become eligible to sign-up for membership and remain eligible until the 1st of the proceeding month. Applicants who do not sign-up within the prescribed period forfeit their eligibility for membership and would need to complete a further induction.

ACCESS

The level of access is determined by the type of membership:

  • Full Screenprint/Riso members Members have independent access, 7 days a week from 8.30AM till 10PM. This applies throughout the year, including national holidays and bank holiday weekends. The only time the studio is inaccessible is during Christmas break, in line with Chapters closing hours. Members independently book time in the studio via Google Calendar. There is no time cap for preparatory work (eg. coating screens, drawing work), but there is a cap of up to 4-hours a day on printing equipment. The calendar is monitored for excessive usage and/or cancellations. We work based on our ability to work around each others schedules and to be respectful of being a member of a shared print studio. Members will be consulted before any changes are made to their access.

  • Pay-As-You-Go Screenprint/Riso members Access is during scheduled dates and times during the week only. The sessions alternate between daytime (11am-3pm) and evening (6pm-10pm) sessions. There are a total of 16 hours over a month split into four sessions. The specific dates and times can be viewed anytime via the website page, ‘Studio Access’.

HEALTH & SAFETY IN THE WORKSHOP

Members who feel noticeably unwell and/or present symptoms of any communicable disease should stay away from the studio until they are in better health.

Prior to the use of any facility or equipment, members must first take the required training and be approved by staff. It is a requirement of membership that health & safety guidelines are adhered to. All members will receive health & safety training as part of the induction and before the start of membership. On successful completion of the health & safety training, members can request or be required to undertake further training in accordance with the prescribed health & safety guidelines.

*Please check with staff first about the use of non-water-based inks/cleaners. The studio is a shared space and members with medical conditions could be exposed to harmful fumes/chemicals that might endanger their health and your own*.

Past the 14-day grace period, membership is automatically stopped and a further induction would be required to re-join the studio. Members will receive an email confirming the end of their membership and instructions for collection of belongings.

  • 30 days Members can restart as normal from the 1st of the proceeding month. No additional fees required

  • 1-3 months Members can restart up to 3 months past their original renewal date but would need to pay a renewal fee and may be required to attend a refresher induction

  • 3 months+ Members looking to return more than 3 months since their subscription ended would be treated as a new member. They would need to go through the process of joining the studio again

PERSONAL STORAGE

Full screenprint members receive a choice of a locker or a planchest drawer as part of their membership. For all other members, including riso and/or screenprint, lockers and planchest drawers are available to hire for variable periods ranging from 1 month to 1 year.

SCREEN STORAGE

There is shared screens storage for all screenprint members located in the ground floor studio and in the adjoining corridor. Members should clearly label their screens with a permanent marker and/or coloured tape. Members are responsible for the safe-keeping of their own screens. We do not take responsibility for members’ personal screens.

KEEPING THE WORKSHOP TIDY

Members are responsible for tidying up after themselves. All equipment and materials must be cleaned and returned to their allocated places. Rubbish and waste must be disposed of responsibly by using the correct waste-bins provided.

COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS

We welcome collaborative working in the studio. Members who collaborate with others as part of their regular work or artistic practice, must speak with us beforehand to discuss the finer details of the collaboration and how they intend to use the studio.

COURSES

The continued subscription to our courses helps to sustain the studio. Members should expect there will be times when parts of the studio will be pre-booked and they will be sharing the studio with non-members. If there is ever an instance where the entire studio is inaccessible because of an external booking, members will be notified by email with at least 2 weeks notice.
